Another tick of approval

Works approval in hand

Our Collie steel mill has been granted Works Approval by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation.

Working closely with our partners GHD and with great support from the WA State Government, our Works Approval application was granted in under 5 months from submission, a great achievement for a project of this size (perhaps even a record!).

We’re certain that the fact that our Collie plant will be the cleanest and greenest steel mill ever built in Australia would have helped with the rapid approval thanks to the use of proven technology by our partners Danieli Group.

For those unfamiliar with Western Australia’s approvals system, a Works Approval is the primary environmental approval required before commencing the construction of a major industrial facility and a major milestone for a project.

In order to grant a Works Approval, the Department must be satisfied that the plant and controls sufficiently prevent, control, abate and mitigate pollution or environmental harm, under Part V of the Environmental Protection Act 1986 (EP Act).

This approval combined with our State Planning approval puts us on track towards obtaining all of the primary construction approvals required to commence building WA’s first steel mill.
