EPBC 2024/09828, development of Collie Green Steel Mill at 154 Boys Home Road, Palmer 6225, 5 km northeast of the Collie townsite.

Publication of Preliminary Documentation under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act)

The following notice is published pursuant to Section 95A(3) of the EPBC Act.

Green Steel of Western Australia Collie Pty Ltd (GSWA) propose to develop the Collie Green Steel Recycling Mill, WA’s first green steel mill and associated infrastructure (the Proposal) at 154 Boys Home Road, Palmer (Lot 2 on Deposited Plan 74040). The proposed action was determined to be a controlled action under the EPBC Act with assessment by Preliminary Documentation. The relevant matters protected by a provision of Part 3 of the EPBC Act are:

  1. Baudin’s Black Cockatoo (Zanda baudinii)
  2. Forest Red-tailed Black Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus banksii naso)
  3. Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo (Zanda latirostris)
  4. Western Ringtail Possum (Pseudocheirus occidentalis)
  5. Chuditch (Dasyurus geoffroii)
  6. Numbat (Myrmecobius fasciatus)
  7. Quokka (Setonix brachyurus)

Public comments are invited on the proposed Collie Green Steel Mill, referral documentation and preliminary documentation. The submission period commences on 24 December 2024 and will close on 24 January 2025. A copy of the Referral and Preliminary Documentation for the proposed action is available on the GSWA’s website at www.greensteelwa.com.au/colliesteelmillepbc/.
